The exhibition consists of twelve pieces of Rop van Mierlo’s iconic hand-painted original tiger, especially for Chinese audiences, it is a welcoming way to celebrate The Year of Tiger in the Chinese calendar.
I was assigned to curate and deliver an exhibition in a special case, which was not open to audience due to the pandemic. It was the first show of the Dutch artist Rop van Merlo targeting on Chinese audience. Both the artist and gallerist were excited to make the exhibition happen, nonetheless, all galleries and museums were requested to close due to the Covid measurement rules. In addition, there was no alternative agreed exhibition date between the artist and gallery.
Hence, I curated an exhibition storyline and communication strategy for the artist aligned with Chinese culture and the philosophy of Taoism's Emptiness, which turned out to be a 65% sales of the total amount of collection. And 5 Chinese brands reached out for further collaboration with the artist.
